How To: Update your Fan/Light Switch Firmware | Hubitat

Please proceed at your own risk. Bricked switches due to user error will not be replaced nor refunded. If you'd like to mail in your switch to have us do it for you, we're happy to do so.
Updating the firmware is a fairly safe & fool proof procedure with Z-Wave. Please double check you are updating the correct device with the appropriate model number. Do not interrupt power to the device while the update is taking place.
The .gbl file is the Z-Wave Chip Upgrade that is Target 0 in the Hubitat Z-Wave Firmware Updater.

Summary

In this tutorial, we'll walk you through how to update your Fan/Light switch to the latest firmware using the Hubitat OTA Firmware Update Tool.

Pre-Requisites

Please work on the pre-requisites prior to updating your firmware. You will need to install the OTA Firmware Update Tool (Binary Version) as well as have the URL for the latest Fan/Light switch firmware.
  1. Device Driver: Binary Firmware Update Tool (right click this URL and copy the URL -- you will need this for later)
  2. Fan/Light Firmware File: LZW36 Firmware Location
(The file in the root folder is the stock firmware -- files in the, "Beta" folder are the latest stable firmware files. The higher the number, the newer the file)

Installing the Driver

In your Hubitat Elevation, navigate to the Drivers Code Section.

Click on New Driver.

Click Import.

Paste the Z-Wave Firmware Updater Tool URL (up above in the "Pre-Requisites" section) in the box and click Import.  It will ask if you want to override the current code.  Click ok.

Once the code loads in the driver box, click save.

Navigate back to your Drivers Code page and you will see the new driver listed.  (Probably at the bottom of the list since it starts with Z.)

Updating the Firmware

Now that we have the driver installed, it's time to update the firmware.

Go to your devices and select your Fan/Light switch, scroll down to the, "Device Information" section and select, "Z-Wave Firmware Updater" -- click, "Save Device".

Now, go to the top and where it says, "Update Firmware" and paste in the URL for the Fan/Light firmware file (should be .gbl)

The target should remain at 0. Now click on, "Update Firmware" and the firmware should start to update. It may take 5-10 minutes. Once you see it get to 100%, it should be done. Once the device has completed updating, change your Device Driver back to your old driver, click Save Device and you are all set! Enjoy your new firmware!

Sometimes the correct firmware doesn't show up at the top right of the screen after you've finished updating the firmware. If this is the case, please click, "Save Preferences" after you've switched back to the correct Driver. The firmware version should now reflect the correct one.
